What I'v Been Up To This Week!

Hi bloggers, second to last Friday of term 4. Yay! This week has been a big one with lots on, but not as much as next week. This week I thought I would just do one big post of some things I have done.

For inquiry this week we have had two tasks to complete, I chose a book creator task and a google sites one. I really enjoyed doing these tasks as they were both very creative and and fun. My favourite task was the book creator one as I got to use bitmoji for the pictures.

In numeracy this week I have created the hub and used the carpet squares in our hub to measure it. It look like three days to make because it was really big. I am so excited to have finished it and I am very proud. I also did the inside in oak wood as that is what our hub is in the inside and then white for the outside as our hub is white on the outside.

In literacy this week we had to create a website on one person who inspires us. I chose to do Michelle Kwan who is a very famous figure skater. She inspires me as I love figure skating and she is very talented.

This is just two little extra things I did a couple weeks back.

The Grinch - FILM SHOTS

Hi bloggers, today for literacy we got to choose a scene of a film of our choice. With this we matched some screenshot with film shots. We made them in a storyboard format so that it looks nice and is easy to present. I decided to use The Grinch as it is nearly Christmas and I think it has a good amount to shots. We had to tell the teacher what shot it was and a little bit about the shot. Happy Blogging!

What Have I Been Up To The Past Few Weeks?

Hi bloggers, I hope you have been having a great term and are enjoying the last few weeks of school. I am really sorry that I haven't posted in a while. I have been so busy the past couple of weeks with lots of assignments and tests. I am going to post lots this week as in our afternoons we have got some fun tasks set, I will leave it a surprise for now, keep an eye out.

This term has been filled with lots of fun and challenging things. Here is a sum up of what I have been up to this term. In maths I have been doing lots of exciting activities, here is some of my recent work. For the first task I had to explain how I worked out this problem and what the answer is. For the second task I had to create part of my school on minecraft, I wanted it to be spot on so I counted how many carpet squares there is across and straight forward.

This term for literacy, my favorite subject. We have been creating short films. I loved the whole process from filming to editing to writing my script, every part has been a journey but very exciting too. I created my short film on imovie as this is a great tool to use for film creating and I am familiar with it as I also used it for my video essay. I created a horror as this is my all time favourite genre. Alongside with creating my film I also had to make sure my script was perfect to hand in as well as a film poster to advertise my short film.

This term for inquiry has been so busy yet extremely fun. We first started of with learning all about different places in NZ and getting to research one and make a brochure to advertise it. Now we have just finished going into groups and getting a country that we have to research and create a whole space filled with information and decorations. This afternoon we start by as I have said previously some very fun and creative tasks.

Have a good week bloggers! I look forward to posting some fun tasks in the next few days! Happy blogging!

The Crazy Change In Hangi!

Hello bloggers, This week we have been looking a lot into hangi and how it has changed. What are the improvements and what are the similarities. As you can see I have taken lots of time to colour and draw it all out to look nice. I am very happy with how it turned out and how I set it out. What hangi do you think is best without reading my poster? As you can see I did a candy cane look for the big titles. I have used lots of colours and spread them out throughout my poster. Have you used a modern hangi before? Have you had some hangi out of the underground ones before? Have a great rest of your day! Happy blogging!

Take A Look At This Great Game Called Ki O Rahi!

Hello bloggers, Ki O Rahi is a maori game that is super interesting and fun to play. Some of the rules are hard to understand so I have created some instructions for you so that you can play this game with your friends too, there is all the information that you need right on this poster. This was fun to create and a little hard as I had to watch a video and then record everything onto my poster. I also have a slide of how Ki O Rahi became a game and the story of Ki O Rahi. Have you played Ki O Rahi before? If so what colour was your team? Happy blogging!

Check Out This Great NZ Culture Work!

Welcome bloggers, New Zealand's culture, traditions and our heritage is super important to New Zealand. For our term 4 inquiry we have been looking at NZ's culture, traditions and our heritage. We have already looked over so much including a poster all about things unique to NZ. Today we backed pavlova and yesterday we made a slide including the korowai, the haka and the moko. I am looking forward to everything else that we have planned for our inquiry. Have you backed a pavlova before? Happy blogging!

Aloha bloggers, I can't believe that it is already the end of week one! I had an amazing time on my two week holiday. What did you get up to, did you do anything really exciting? I did so many things over there like, swimming, kayaking, adventuring on the islands, went on lots of walks, looked around Hokitika, took my puppy for lots of walks, went down to the lakefront, walked around half of the lake and played lots of board games like monopoly.

Term 4 week 1! This week has been so busy and full of lots of fun activities including the leaders trip. On monday and Tuesday me and all of the other leaders went on a trip. We did lots of strategizing activities and ones that involve lots of courage and team work. I overall had a great time and it was nice not to be at school for a couple of days.

Happy Friday bloggers! Here is a photo from the leaders trip!

Hi bloggers, this term our focus for inquiry was rockets. You may have seen one of my previous posts about what we have done. I thought you might want to see my final launch video and my short film about everything. I created my short film on Imovie as this is a great platform to use when it comes to short films etc. I hope you enjoy, take a look at one of my previous posts to have a look more about what we have been up to and the process. In my film you will see us reading out the process and the laws of motion, the swing test, the final launch and a funny blooper of Matilda. I am unable to post my video due to technical difficulties and the video not uploading. Have a great holiday everyone!

Hi bloggers, last day of the term, yay! What have you got planned for the holidays? Are you going away anywhere? I am. This term for maths we have had a lots of different focusses including time, minecraft task on time, minecraft task for question, slide show presentations. Yesterday I did an activity on google slides and it was about 3 famous buildings. I chose to do The Eiffel Tower, The Leaning Tower Of Pisa and The Empire State Building. Did you know that The Eiffel Tower is named after the engineer whose company built it, Gustave Eiffel. And The Leaning Tower Of Pisa was built on a nearly four degree lean. Also The Empire State Building is the world most famous building, located in New York. Happy holidays bloggers!

Sign Language Week!

Kia ora bloggers, did you know that this week is Nz sign language week? Today I have been learning about the history of sign language and how to use sign language. Did you know that kids used to get punished if they spoke sign language, but the def kids used to secretly speak to each other when the teacher wasn't looking. Today I went onto a website called Sign Ninja Game and got to learn lots of sign language. First it teacher you how to sign each thing and them it tested you to see if you remember and if you don't it just takes you back to the learning video and you can try again. Have a go at it, as is so much fun and you have to feed this monster to be able to pass each level and you feed it with the food that you earn, whilst playing the game and doing the activities. After that our teachers wanted us to video ourselves signing our name. Have a look at mine. Have a great week bloggers, don't forget to practise your sign language, it is very important.

Game On Wednesday!

Hi bloggers, three weeks ago for technology I made a board game out of paper, as our teacher was away. I decided to make it kiwi related as that is where I am from and I think that it is a cool idea to do for a game. I really enjoyed this task and it was actually a lot more fun than I thought. Have you ever created a board game out of paper before? We also made counters and things that a normal board game would have but at this time I did not have them. Have a great week - I am so looking forward to the holidays, are you?

Maths - Film Times!

Hi there bloggers, we have been learning about 24 hour time and how to convert am/pm. Today's task is to think of three films and then find out the running time of each movie, add a question relating to time and get someone else to work out the questions and give feedback. I had Sienna as my pair and she has wrote a lovely comment on my second slide and I have done a great comment on her slide too. I have enjoyed doing time and have found most things quite easy as I have done this last year too. Have a great rest of your day! What do you think I could do next time to improve, I think I could probably add both answers in for each movie.

Technology - Cooking!

Hi bloggers, how are you going? I am great. Since I am in yr 8 I do technology each Wednesday, since lookdown I haven't posted anything about what I have been doing at tech. Last term I did acrylics and made a really good clock and the term before that I did sewing and made a wall organizer and this term I am on my last rotation and am doing cooking. In cooking we are making bread and last week I made a turtle and bunny design for my bread. We have to go through a design process for our bread. First learn to make bread, then make two mockup designs, finally flavour the bread. This week we are up to flavouring our breads. What flavour do you think I will do? Have you make bread before? Which one of my designs do you like the most?

Numeracy - Minecraft Ice Skating Rink!

Hi bloggers, what did you get up to today in numeracy? I have been working on my minecraft clock task pt 2! For this I have to think of a question and then make an image to match. This is my question, If I practise ice skating 14 hours a week each year how many hours do I skate in one year? I chose this question because I do ice skating and I practise a lot of hours a week. Have you been ice skating this year? Do you like my ice skating rink? I do. Have a great week!

Coding - PSA!

Hi bloggers, It is finally Friday! Yay! This week we started to do coding instead of Samoan language studies. I am very excited to show you what I have created in my coding session on Wednesday afternoon. I used a website called Codesters to create my amazing PSA. I am very proud of what I have achieved as some parts can be quite hard and parts where challenging. I also had to do two learning session on Codesters and we had so ask Mr. Gillstrom to help us with some as he is very good at coding and he knows how to use Codesters very well. Unfortunately we are not able to post our PSA's working on our blog so instead I have got some pictures of my PSA and my PSA python writing. Have you create a PSA on Codesters? Happy Friday! ~ Happy blogging!

Maths This Week!

Hi bloggers, it is going to be a sunny day today! I am ready for a great day of learning and fun. On Monday for maths we did some problem solving for our progressions so kind of like a test, but it was stuff that we already knew. On Tuesday we did a slide and voiceover about something that we have been learning about e.g coin flipping and the spinner. I chose to do the coin flipping as I think it is the most challenging one. Today we are showing our teacher what we have completed so that it can get marked of our numeracy progressions. Whilst we wait for Mr. Shaw to look at our work we are working on our bricks knowledge, I am working on brick 30 (the very last one then I am finished). Have a great Thursday! "Ko tenei ra he ra paki!" - "Today is a sunny day!"

Maths Week 2020!

Hi bloggers, what a lovely day it is today. I am looking forward to the weekend, as I am going skiing at Mt Hutt and practicing my ice skating as I have a competition coming up. What sports do you do? I also do tumble cheerleading and swimming. As you may know this week it maths week! For maths week have split into our house colours and done four rotations and done something different in each one.

The first one I did was with Mr. Shaw we played a game where we split in half and half of the group sat on a chair (they were in a circle) the other group had to try and verse the other team and get the maths question before the other group. One person at a time moved round the circle and had three lives ( if you get a question wrong you get one live taken away) you had to try and move to each person and beat them to the question.

The second maths game I played was bingo with Mrs. Davies, we had six rows of numbers and we had to find them quickly. We had to answer the basic facts questions and get a line and then a full house (if there is time)!

The third game I played was with Mrs. Osborn and we where maths gambling, here is how you play! The dice will be rolled, and everytime it is rolled you write down the number rolled. After each roll you get the chance to either bank, or gamble your points.  If you decide to bank, you sit down and total up all the points written down, but you can not add any more points until the next round. If you decide to gamble, you stay up for another roll and write the next number down.  However, if the number 6 is rolled, you lose all your points that have not been banked. There can be multiple rounds, each round you start from 0 again. The winner is the person who has the most points, once all of the participants of the game have either banked their points and sat down or lost all their points from gambling and losing.

The fourth and final game I played was with Mr. Gillstrom. We used a website and chose number cards and them had to make the number that was written on the whiteboard. We had one minute for each one and had to write them down on paper.

We have also done a scavenger hunt with our kiwi buddies! It spelled out 'maths is cool.' Throughout the day we have been watching some of the famous singers maths week video and had to work out the problem and answer. Here are the videos we have done today. One of the videos was One Direction!

Have a great rest of your Friday! Happy blogging! :)

Samoan Visual Classroom!

Talofa bloggers, since the start of the year we have been learning Samoan. This is my virtual classroom where I have put all my learning for you to also learn from. If you hover over items in my classroom, a hyperlink will pop up for you to click on. In my classroom you will learn about: Samoa as a country, link to a traditional dance video, basic greetings, the alphabet, how to count 1-10 , Information about Siapo - how it is created, some examples, an animation showing a simple conversation in Samoan. I hope you enjoy my classroom and I would really like to know what you enjoyed the most. Fa!

Samoan Animation! - Ben And Holly's Little Kingdom!

Hi bloggers, what a busy week it has been so far. This weeks learning task for Samoan is to create a Samoan animation of basic Samoan greetings. I created mine on google slides and animated it, I decided to use some of the characters from Ben And Holly's Little Kingdom. I also added to english term to each sentence, so that you will be able to know what the greeting it. This is our last week of Samoan and we are about to start to work on coding. Have you learned Samoan before? What do you know about the Samoan language?

3-2-1- Blast Off! Rocket Animation!

Hi bloggers, I am looking forward to what this week brings and am excited to start today's numeracy, literacy and inquiry tasks. What did you get up to yesterday at school? What was your favourite thing the you did or and achieved? This term as you may or may not know we are working on building rockets, not real ones, ones make out of a 1.5 litre plastic bottle. The good thing about using a plastic bottle it that we can reuse it over and over again. So far we are up to the point where we have been testing the pressure and water on some test ones as a group. To see what pressure and water amount work the most and launch the farthest. This week so far I have make an animation showing a rocket launching into space and showing how thrust, drag and weight work in order to launch a rocket and for the rocket to land again. Please have a look at my animation as I spent a long time yesterday working on it and feel free to leave a comment. Have you make a rocket out of a 1.5 litre plastic bottle before? Have a great week! :)

Maori Memory Match Game And Video!

Hi bloggers, It is a lovely day today. Last week for maori we started making a maori card game. We had to create a poster with the instructions of how to play our game and add our qr code to it to be able to view the instructional video. I used qr code generator to create my qr code. We also created our own memory match cards on google slides. My game is memory match and has the english meaning of something and the maori version e.g english: Hello maori: Kia Ora. I have also added clipart images of each thing so that it is easy to identify. Have you used qr code generator before? Have you ever created a maori game before? What words do you know in maori? Happy Friday! :)

Hi bloggers, it is such a nice day today, and it is our book week dress up day. I am dressed up cookie monster and I have got cookies tied onto my top. This week for numeracy we have been looking at BEDMAS and we have been doing lots of challenging problems. BEDMAS stands for brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition and finally subtraction. BEDMAS helps remember an order of operations. I have added some pictures of some of the maths we have been doing. Have you used bedmas to help you solve a problem?

Literacy - Children's Books! - With Mr. Loan

Hi bloggers, It is so sunny and warn outside, don't forget to stay hydrated. This week for our literacy learning task we have been learning about children's books with Mr. Loan. We have been learning about what is in a children's book that makes it a children's book. The conventions of a children's book, description, the audience, morals and more. We have also been diving deeper/pulling apart these stories to really get as much as we can out of them. To help us with this we have been listing to people read famous children's books and researching famous authors and there most popular stories. Some of which include Margret Mahy and The Great White Man-Eating Shark, Lynley Dodd Slinky Malinki. Dr. Seuss Green Eggs And Ham. We also looked at children's shows and what the introduction includes. Also at the moment we are writing our own children's book and I will blog once I have finished it, keep a close eye out. It also happens to be book week this week which is perfect timing. Did you know that Lynley Dodd is a kiwi author. Who is your favourite children's book author?

Literacy - Children's Poem!

Hi bloggers, welcome back. I have been posting so much about literacy today, I have one more for today. Last week for literacy we created a poem for little kids (5-6 year olds). I decided to do mine with lots of animals as little kids love animals and so do I. I also tried to add in the rhyme, that a poem should have. I love writing poems and my favourite part is the rhyme that they have. As you can see I have also added some pictures to give a clear picture of what to put into your imagination. What is your favourite animal I have here? Mine is probably the Elephant. My favourite animal is actually a dog though. What is yours?

Literacy - Folktale & Urban Legend!

Hi bloggers, what a nice day it is! Two weeks ago we had to choose two of the three tasks set by our numeracy teacher. The first one that I did was the folk tale, mine is called light swamp. Have a read if you please. Lastly I researched about an urban legend, I chose to do riverdale road. What urban legends have you heard about. Have you heard about the urban legend of riverdale road before? What is your favorite urban legend? Have a good rest of you day! Happy Tuesday! :)

Literacy - Film Noir!

Hi bloggers, How is your day going? What do you have you got planned for your school day? Last term for literacy we had a focus on genres and I have forgotten to post the last of it. The last genre we went over was film noir. We worked on expanding our ideas on the conventions of film noir. Film noir is similar to horror and it is originally where horror originated. There however are many differences between the two of them. What differences do you notice? Have you done research on film noir before? Do you know what film noir is and it's conventions?

Parachute For Rocket Challenge!

Hi bloggers, how is your day going? This weeks learning task for our Rocket Challenge inquiry is to be able to construct and build our own parachute. Our Initial design process was a range of fabrics conjoined together to make a curved shape. We then added masking tape to help hold everything together and finally string that attached the two hex nuts. Our second design process Involved us using bubble rap, masking tape to hold the string and finally the hex nuts. By using the String and Inter twining it together created a curved shape. With all of the materials we used with our design, we didn't want to add to many materials or else it would go straight down which had a lighter Material will cause it to go slower. Our challenge today, Is the parachute with the slowest time wins. Our parachute, however, didn't go as planned as we only started with a small-time frame, as we had other things on. Our parachute started with a nice flow then went straight to the ground, like a rock. Our time is 1.4 seconds. Once we had finished creating our parachute we created a slide that had our begging, middle and end evaluation plan and outcome. Have you constructed your own parachute before? If so what did it look like, what materials did you use?

The Begging Of My Week, What Will It Bring?

Hi bloggers, It is such a nice day today and the sun is shinning into my classroom. I am very excited for this week as it is book week. Book week is where we do lots of thing based around books and book characters including fun activities and a book character dress up day on Thursday. Make sure to keep an eye out for some book week content on my blog. For literacy at the moment we are creating our own children's book. These will be completed over the next week or two. Numeracy at the moment is full of fun things as we are doing a basic facts test each morning before we begin our lesson and have been leaning lots of fun things at the moment but with it giving us a challenge as well. As you may or may not know we are building rockets at the moment and have been going over the safety procedure and planning how we are going to do it witch is very exciting so I will be blogging the finished results by the end of the term. Have a great week! :)

Hi bloggers, have you had a good week? I have. I can't believe that next week is week 2. On Wednesday after technology we did an activity called going shopping. What we had to do was go online with a budget of $170 and buy food for a family of 4 one with no allergies, one gluten free, one vegan and lastly one dairy free. The total cost for me came to $82.10 c. I really enjoyed this task as it was lots of fun, also slightly challenging as we had to consider everyone with their allergies.

Maths Term 2!

Hi bloggers, thank you for viewing this blog post. This term for maths we have been focusing on angles and measurement which was a lot of fun and working on our bricks. I am currently on brick 28 out of 30. Next term we'll be learning about number patterns and algebra. I have had lots of fun in maths this term and am excited to see what next term brings. I have been putting most of my maths work on this slide so if you would like feel free to have a look over my work. What have you done in numeracy this term? Are you looking forward to next term?

Literacy Term 2!

Hi bloggers, thank you for viewing this blog post. This term for literacy we have been creating websites on The Wizard Of Oz and doing genre studies, so far we have done horror, musical, comedy and sci fi. We still have to learn about western, quest, action and film noir. Next term we are continuing to do genre studies and then we are going to select which genre is our favorite and create a video essay about it. We have been creating our own google slide about what we know about each genre, similarities, movies that fit under that genre and more. What do you know about genre? What genre is your favourite?

World Hunger Inquiry Term 2!

Hi bloggers, thank you for viewing this blog post. This term for inquiry we have been diving deeper into global issues and researching and creating art on our chosen topic. For my Global Issue I chose World Hunger. I decided to make my final product on a canvas and use paint to complete it. My art is a split screen, one side represents a rich and full rabbit and the other side represents a poor and hungry rabbit. Hunger is a huge issue and needs to be solved, did you know that about 820 million people are hungry right now? Every year about 9 million people die from hunger. There are about 7.5 billion people living on this globe and 820 of them are hungry right now. I am really happy with my final outcome and how it has turned out. We have also had to write blurbs of what our art piece represents and a little bit about our art piece. For our end of term art production our teachers have created a virtual gallery which is in various sections of our different Global issues. The virtual gallery will be easy to navigate and we will be able to see everyones art pieces. Usually we would have an assembly and parents would come in and look at what we have been focusing on, but due to COVID-19 we were unable to do so. What global issue would you do, if you did one?

Southern Lights Artwork!

Hi bloggers, thank you for viewing this blog post. Today we have been creating Southern Lights artwork and learning about them. The Southern Lights usually occurs in areas known as the 'auroral zone' near the poles in the north and Antarctic in the south. Aurora is caused by the collision of energetically charged particles with atoms in the high altitude thermosphere within our atmosphere. Auroras are associated with the solar winds that flow past the Earth. These winds flow out from the Sun and contain plasma particles (ionized gas) which gets pulled into the Earth magnetic pole fields. For the Southern Lights art I first had to rip my paper into a mountain like template. Then I had to flick white pain on to make it look like the milky way. Then I had to decide what colours I wanted to use I chose light pink, purple, dark green, dark blue, light blue and yellow. And lastly I added my matariki stars. I am really happy with how this has turned out and love them colour combination. What do you think? Do you like the colours I chose? Have you ever created a Southern Lights art piece?
